"Dream interpretation is a cultural practice, not a certified profession. We present traditional frameworks transparently and welcome corrections from authoritative sources."
Our Evidence Standard
DukeZhou presents dream interpretations from multiple perspectives. We clearly distinguish between:
- [Zhou Gong] Zhou Gong's Dream Tradition — References to the traditional Zhou Gong dream interpretation corpus and its cultural context. Where a specific saying or interpretation is widely attributed to the Zhou Gong text, we state that it is part of folk tradition rather than claiming a precise chapter-and-verse source.
- [Wu Xing] Wu Xing (Five Elements) Framework — Symbolic analysis using the Chinese elemental system (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). This is an interpretive framework, not a literal diagnosis or prediction system.
- [Psychology] Psychological Perspective — Observations informed by modern dream psychology (Jungian analysis, cognitive dream processing). These are presented as interpretive frameworks, not clinical diagnoses.
- [Editorial] Editorial Analysis — Our own synthesis and practical guidance, clearly labeled to distinguish it from traditional or scholarly sources.
What We Do Not Claim
- We do not claim that dream interpretations are medical, psychological, or psychiatric diagnoses.
- We do not claim that traditional Chinese dream interpretations are scientifically validated.
- We do not claim that specific dreams predict specific future events or outcomes.
- We do not claim that our editorial team holds formal qualifications in Chinese medicine, psychology, or traditional culture beyond research-level knowledge.
Source Attribution
Every interpretation on DukeZhou falls into one of these categories:
- Traditional Chinese folk dream interpretation — Attributed as "traditional interpretation" or "Zhou Gong tradition"
- Wu Xing symbolic framework — Explained as an interpretive system rather than ancient doctrine
- Psychological observation — Attributed to the relevant psychological framework (Jungian, cognitive, etc.)
- Editorial guidance — Our own practical recommendations, always identified as such
We do not fabricate specific ancient text citations, search volume statistics, or psychological research findings. Where we reference external sources, we link to them directly.
